History

St Bernard School was founded by the Parish and opened in 1948. Three Irish Catholic nuns were the core of the faculty and there were just barely 100 students. In the 1950s and 60s, the school population grew faster than the facilities, and classes often had fifty or more students.  The school grew as large as 358 students.

This school year, St Bernard School has 228 students  from pre-K through 8. Average class size is between 20 and 25. The student body is diverse in every way. About forty-percent of students are Caucasian/European; over half are ethnically Hispanic-American, African-American or Asian. Of course, the student body is predominantly Roman Catholic, but students of every faith are represented and welcomed.

The children are taught by a lay faculty of dedicated teachers.  These teacher average 16 years of teaching experience.
